About
Cie Pieds Perchés is a Czech-Swiss circus company working between the Czech Republic, Switzerland and France. They mix circus, physical theater and visual art to create thought-provoking shows accessible to all audiences.
The company was founded in 2009 by two Swiss artists, Morgane Widmer and Stéphanie N'Duhirahe, who have known each other all their lives.
Stéphanie is a graduate of the University of Fine Arts, Geneva (HEAD ex-ESBA) and the Quebec Circus School (ECQ), while Morgane trained professionally at E.S.A.C (Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque, Brussels).
They discovered circus arts together as children in Nyon (Switzerland), and were particularly drawn to the aerial rope, which has become their favorite means of expression.
The company concentrates on transforming aerial rope technique to use the apparatus in innovative ways. Stéphanie and Morgane question and work directly with the rope's constraints (height, space, and attachment points, for example) to invite spectators to see this circus technique in a new way.
They have also developed a unique approach to duo rope work.
The Slovak musician Roman Džáčár joined Cie Pieds Perchés in 2016, enriching their shows with live music created for and adapted to each performance. This approach led the company to develop mainly site-specific pieces, focusing on the place, and the history of a space as a primary source for creation and inspiration. Through a wide range of site-specific interventions, Stéphanie and Morgane seek to bring the art of circus to unusual places. Their shows (Foutaise, 2010; Le poids du vide, 2013/2016, Vejce vejci 2015; Mute, 2016; Mezi Řeči, 2018; OK(N)o, 2020; _ LINK_ , 2022; Šrámy_la débattue, 2023; Šrámy_děti z bakelitu and Carcasse, 2024,) have been performed internationally.
The site-specific project Šrámy_ la débattue was selected from among 435 projects for the Perform Europe grant, a funding program for the European performing arts sector. The grant supports 42 inclusive, diverse, and ecologically-minded touring projects in the 40 countries of Creative Europe.
The site-specific creations OK(N)o and _LINK_ were presented in Switzerland at Espace Eeeeh! in 2021, at the Far° festival in Nyon in 2023, and at the Festival de la Cité in Lausanne in 2022.
